To the Residents of East Haven MAYORAL CANDIDATE JOSEPH CARFORA Every boundary in this Town contains a natural treasure. We have Historically significant areas in our great community and unfortunately some have been neglected One of our treasures is the former Girl Scout Camp on Sperry Lane. Many of you may recall that, that open space property was enjoyed by generations of children attending the Camp. Unfortunately, the unique and picturesque quali- ties of this treasure are threatened because it has now fallen into the hands of a private developer. The plans that filed for this property with the Town show that the developer intends to signifi- cantly alter its unique and picturesque qualities. But the developer cannot do this without ap- pearing before the Planning and Zoning Board to a request Zone change. If the developer gets this Zone Change and the plans are approved, the property will be, in my view, in jeopardy of being overly-developed. Overdevelopment and imesponsible planning of development can greatly drive down the value of existing homes in the area and greatly impact everyone's quality of life. Moreover, the desired Zone change might even allow the developer to create a rock quarry on the cherished Girl Scout Camp as there is a lot of money to be had in stone on the location. Overdevelopment is one thing, but the potential for a quarry to be created generates health con cems, water table disruption, traffic problems. The list is long and concerning. Either way, the development of that property will place an overly-heavy burden on our taxpayers, in terms of Town Services: Police, Fire, Public Works, Schools, Engineering. In short, this project takes from the Town of East Haven, but it does little to give back to the Town of East Haven If anything, it benefits the developer and not our town. am for responsible development, that improves the quality of life in this Town. Commercial devel opment must be evaluated very carefully and those who seek to develop our town must be fully vetted and evaluated I opposed the residential development of the former D.C. Moore School, again, a project that benefited one developer to the detriment of the Town. The Republicans push that project through as my opponent sat quietly while residents one after another spoke out against it. In the end he voted for it oppose any proposed zone change for Sperry Lane. To date my Republican opponent has NOT opposed any zone change for Sperry Lane Enough is enough. Under a Carfora Administration East Haven will no longer be for sale. On Saturday, September 28, 2019 I will be holding a Sperry Lane Project informational meeting at the East Haven Fire House, on Rte. 80 at 4pm.
