One important way is to ensure transparency in Town Government. It's an easy enough concept. I have already tried to be transparent from the get-go about my own life so that you know everything there is to know about me and my ability to serve as your Mayor But beyond that, how do I provide East Haven residents with an equal degree of transparency when it comes to their Government? For one thing, I do that through a Town-wide computer system where residents can lodge a Complaint about a problem, which is linked to all other Departments for a response. This would provide 24/7 access by all residents. Because the "the buck stops with the Mayor," as it should, that computer system would also be linked to the Mayor's Office, so that I can monitor the Complaints, and oversee Town Departments to ensure that they are being held accountable in responding in a timely manner. Other surrounding Towns to the East and West of us have successfully used these systems in the past to provide greater transparency and responsiveness to Taxpayers. If they can do it, we can do it too. So, you might ask, "Great idea Joe, but how are we going to pay for it?" The answer is simple Iintend to devote one member of the Mayor's Staff as a designated Grant Writer so that East Haven can access Grant monies just like every other municipality The fact that this Town has around. never had a designated Grant Writer in the past means one thing: We lost out on accessing free money wherever and however it could be obtained through the Grant Process. That practice has to stop. Iintend to do just that with the tools to ensure an open, honest, transparent Government a Government that is designed to improve the quality of life in East Haven.
