To the Residents of the Touwn of East Haven MAYORAL CANDIDATE JOSEPH CARFORA In my view Public Service to this Town is not a right It is a privilege. Any person elected to serve, holds the public trust At its most basic level, holding that trust means that you are sworn to do the right thing, by the people who elected you, in an open, honest, transparent manner, not just on Election Day, but every day, because someone went to work just to pay your salary. I take this responsibility so seriously that the first Initiative I intend to launch upon my election to Office as the Mayor of East Haven, is the wholesale revision of the Town's Ethics Ordinances. These Ordinances were enacted forty-five (45) years ago in 1974 The times have obviously changed since then. We are a bigger Town facing more complex challenges. Because of that, the types of conduct or behaviors that were not allowed then, need to be clearly expanded upon now to meet the demands of the times. I propose that part and parcel of that effort include strengthening the powers of the Ethics Board, increasing the ability of any person to file an Ethics Complaint, and mandating that the Ethics Board meet on a consistent basis to hear your Complaints. So while the times have changed, what should not change, are basic concepts that need to guide government fairness, honesty, and transparency Upon my election to the Office of Mayor, I will challenge my colleagues on the Town Counsel to join me in a bi-partisan effort to enact the legislation that is needed to ensure that you have the government that you deserve and more importantly, the government that you can be proud of. Yes, indeed, times have changed. But, it's now time to turn the page and strive for something better, a better way of life, an improved quality of life for our East Haven. My home. Your home.
