Growing up I heard stories about my great, great Aunt, Bessie Cohen, a union organizer, who survived the infamous 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire in New York City, leading to the country's first workers' safety laws. Also, my father, Attorney Matthew Shafner, was a pioneer in the field of asbestos injuries, filing the first asbestos claims against Electric Boat Currently I have provided written argu- ments for our Supreme Court to uphold the rights of injured workers to pursue benefits even after they have retired.
