Since 1988, Nathan has represented injured workers, their spouses, and children concerning their workers' compensation claims. Attorney Shafner's experience spans workers' compensation claims throughout Connecticut, including shipyard and dock workers under the Longshore Act, and injuries of federal contractors injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Moreover, he has been involved with over 60 appeals before the Connecticut Compensation Review Board, and in both the Connecticut Appellate and Supreme Courts. Nathan actively works with Unions to educate members on their rights and responsibilities. He regularly organizes seminars and workshops for union members, offering his guidance when they are faced with the many obstacles associated with work-related injuries. Nathan drafts legislative bills annually and testifies before the General Assembly to advocate for changes involving workers' compensation issues. Growing up I heard stories about my great, great Aunt, Bessie Cohen, a union organizer, who survived the infamous 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire in New York City, leading to the country's first workers' safety laws. Also, my father, Attorney Matthew Shafner, was a pioneer in the field of asbestos injuries, filing the first asbestos claims against Electric Boat Currently I have provided written argu- ments for our Supreme Court to uphold the rights of injured workers to pursue benefits even after they have retired. Work injuries often devastate one's ability to earn a living, and that impact is lifelong. The Court needs to get this right and I am happy to lend them my expertise.
