First Selectman Rob Brule has 30 years of supervisory experience in the human service field. Prior to being elected First Selectman in 2019, he was a Chief Operating Officer and Director of Operations for nearly 10 years. As Chief Operations Officer, he ensured that the company's everyday activities ran smoothly. Rob set parameters to judge how efficiently and effectively the organization is operating while most of my time was spent reviewing and evaluating business procedures ranging from company programming and expenses to ABI, Special Education and Veteran Independence Program revenue. Rob has committed himself to the ABI/TBI and Veteran community and implemented new directives for growth, set guidelines for personnel evaluations, recruitment, and advancement and finally, established extensive partnerships with businesses in eastern Connecticut. As an ABI Program Manager in eastern Connecticut for four years, Rob was certified as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and developed extensive relationships with DSS Social Workers, DMHAS Community Integration Specialists, Clinical Team Leaders, MFP, Clients, Conservators and family members. Prior to his shift to the the non-profit world in 2008, Rob was a Residential Manager in the private sector for 17 years, working closely with the Department of Developmental Services, opening and supervising DDS Licensed Group Homes, In-Home Support programs and Day Programs. Rob acted as a Crisis Intervention Specialist and was a certified Physical/Psychological Management Training Instructor. Rob currently supervises 14 town-wide Departments Heads, negotiates union contracts, authors a Town Capital Improvement Plan, creates and monitors an operating budget of approximately $47M for the Town of Waterford. Rob has created annual budgets for the Town of 2.06%, 1.68%, 1.25% and this past year’s budget of 1.31%. Rob remains excited to fulfill the mission of the Town of Waterford and carry out its vision of maintaining a stable tax rate, ensuring residents are safe, roads are paved, and striving to create a better tomorrow for our residents.
