About

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help families build a place to call home. We believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. The work of Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. In the spirit of sharing, we create safe and affordable homes in partnership with qualifying families in need of decent shelter. We do this through the dedicated efforts of community volunteers, financial sponsors and partnering families who find rewarding experiences by sharing their time, talents, and resources. Our vision is to make a difference in the lives of others, fulfill the dream of home ownership with an affordable mortgage and help eliminate sub-standard housing in Eastern Connecticut. Comprised of three separate affiliates, Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut merged together over a six year period beginning in 2013 and ending in 2019. Each partnership formed with a desire to provide greater service to the cause of decent shelter for all. The mergers created the largest geographic Habitat service area in the state. Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut, founded 1987 Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut, founded 1994 Habitat for Humanity of the Windham Area, founded 1995 Habitat for Humanity of Eastern Connecticut, born with the spirit of incredible partnership and desire to do more, has completed 92 homes locally and assisted approximately 120 families internationally. This has been made possible through the generosity of many who contribute time in a range of supportive services, who donate building materials or property and who donate funds that allow us to buy needed construction materials. We are incredibly grateful for a broad range of support from our homeowners, individuals, foundations, government entities, corporations and area faith groups. We strive to be exceptional stewards of these gifts of time, talent and treasure and have been rewarded with Charity Navigator’s 4 Star Rating over the last several years. With your help, we can do more. Non-proselytizing policy: We are a nonprofit Christian housing organization open to people of all faiths or beliefs. Habitat for Humanity and its affiliate organizations will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
