CELEBRATING 28 YEARS! Welcome to My weekly series! THE LANDSCAPE PROFESSIONAL ASK Linda K. Lillie of Sprigs & Twigs Linda K. Lillie has been President of Sprigs & Twigs, Inc. for the last 26 years. She is a graduate of Connecticut College in Botany, an accredited NOFA Organic Land Care Professional, a Connecticut Master Gardener and a national award winning landscape designer for her design and installation projects. The top of my weeping cherry blossom not flowering. Any suggestions? - Gerald, New York Before you sent me your picture, my advice was it is a bit early for the Weeping Cherries to be blooming here in eastern Connecticut. Weeping Cherries usually bloom in April- May and they tend to bloom in sections of the tree. Most of the time, the top is the last to bloom. EMAIL OR MAIL YOUR QUESTIONS TO: info@sprigsandtwigs.net or Linda Lillie, Sprigs & Twigs Inc, PO Box 245, Gales Ferry, CT 06335 Now that I see your picture, the tree needs to be pruned, thinned, and fertilized. Remove all the colored rocks from beneath the tree and thin out the mulch, it is way too deep. Trees breathe through their leaves and roots. All the extra mulch, the denseness of the tree branches and the rocks are preventing water and oxygen from getting to the roots which is suffocating the tree. A stressed tree will not bloom.
