CELEBRATING 26 YEARS! Welcome to My weekly series! ASK PROFESSIONAL Linda K. Lillie of Sprigs & Twigs Linda K. Lillie has been President of Sprigs & Twigs, Inc. for the last 25 years. She is a graduate of Connecticut College in Botany, an accredited NOFA Organic Land Care Professional, a Connecticut Master Gardener and a national award winning landscape designer for her design and installation projects. My jade plant weighs about 100 pounds How do I split it up...Steven Hi Steven, Take your Jade Plant outside and split it with a sharp shovel into as many pieces you want. Remove some of the soil from around the roots and prune any roots that do not look healthy and any roots that look like they have been ripped. Make sure there is a clean cut on each root. Cut back all upper green growth on each piece by 1/3 and replant into fresh soil specific for cactus. This is an important step. The original roots have been disturbed and cannot support the remaining upper growth unless the plant is cut back. Fertilize with a slow-release organic fertilizer. Do not use Miracle Grow....it has a lot of salt in it that is not good for plants.
